We did our Under The Sea Theater Box this morning. It was quick and fun, end to finish took about 30 minutes.
What you'll need
~ Empty Cereal Box
~ Aluminum Foil
~ Pipe cleaners (for sea creatures and to make underwater plants)
~ Paint, Crayons, and/or Colored Pencils
~ Colored Construction Paper
~ Seashells
~ Yarn
* Not pictured; Glue Gun and some very eager kiddos. Sand would be really neat to use as the ocean floor. Jack just colored it nicely with a brown colored pencil.
First, cut, color, and paint your sea creatures that will be in your theater box. Take some blue paint and paint your aluminum foil. It will create a neat backdrop in the box.
Place your foil in the back of the box, ours stayed just fine but you could glue this if needed. Use a glue gun to glue your seaweed to the box and sea creatures to your pipe cleaners and then place through a hole in the top of the box. They will be able to move up and down this way :) See the jellyfish's tentacle's moving in the picture below, haha!
He also wanted to make sure I included some neat facts he learned about Jellyfish and Seahorses this past week, haha, such as.................................
- A group of Jellyfish is called a smack.
- Jellyfish do not have a heart, brain, bones, or eyes.
- A Jellyfish is made up of over 90% water.
- Daddy Seahorses carry eggs in their pouch until they hatch.
- Seahorses have one mate for their life.
- Seahorses do not have stomachs.

Very cool!
That is a pretty cool craft! And I am loving the facts. :) Interesting stuff!
Nyah would LOVE this - she's all about sea life. Thanks so much for such great ideas - this is one we'll definitely be doing!
YD ~ Thanks! Jack does a littel something with it every day!
Betsy ~ Jellyfish are pretty neat, huh lol.
Jen ~ I hope Nyah enjoys it as much as Jack did :)
This is fantastic! I love your idea to turn a diorama into a tiny puppet show! I've linked to you at my Shoebox Dioramas page.
Thanks, Jimmie! I love the link you posted. I definetly think we will be doing more diorama's down the road. I think it helps make things sink in for young kids. You have lots of great ideas posted there :)
